AshaSex symbol and women’s rights activist. Chirpy VJ and wry host. Local celebrity and international star. Asha Gill has worn more hats and acquired more labels in her 34 years than most people do in their lifetime.
“I’m sure I’ve always wanted to do everything,” said the multi-talented self-confessed schizo-phrenic in an interview with KLIA Times. “My brain goes a mile a minute sometimes. I just fall into things. And when I see the door and what’s behind it and I like it , I’m like a dog with a bone. So far, so good.”
Born July 3,1972 in Kent, Asha was schooled and raised in the United Kingdom. She came to Malaysia to be with her parents in Seremban. But she returned to the UK to take her O-Levels and A-Levels and went on to do her Bachelors in Science in Quantity Surveying at Kingston Poly, Surrey.
After a stint in production work in the UK, Asha decided to come to Malaysia to stay for good. This decision proved instrumental in shaping her career. Her talent in modeling and hosting was quickly recognized. She began getting one high-profile job after another and firmly launched her career.
Asha first made a name for herself as a Channel [V] VJ (1999-2003), though she did get credits for directing, producing and writing for the company.  “Now that is what I love. To be a proper part of the team,” she said. (more…)

Malacca: A visit to the historical town of Malacca is both an education and a pleasure. You get to see the vestiges of early foreign occupation-Portuguese and Dutch-that hark back to a glorious past when it was a vibrant maritime trading centre and coveted by several foeign powers. You can’t miss , a fortress built by the Portuguese admiral Alfonso d’AlBuquerque in 1511. and there is of course the striking salmon-red Stadthuys. Built in 1650 as the official residence of dutch governors and officials. It is believed to be the oldest Dutch building in the East (Circa 1641 and 1660).

Porta de Santiago (A’Famosa)

SEREMBAN: Some 50km from here is the charming royal town of Sri Menanti. This is the official residence of the Negri Sembilan Ruler or the Yang Di-Pertuan Besar. This is also where you find the Royal Museum. As the Minangkabau culture and tradition is strong in this state, the architecture and design of the museum is a classic show case of this. For history buffs, the museum, which was once a palace, is a repository of the regalia of the Negari Sembilan royal family, including costumes, ceremonial weaponrym bed chambers and documents of the royal lineage on display.

PETALING JAYA: There is good reasonably-priced seafood! Plus great service too. Just get yourself to “Strawberry Fields” restaurant. Décor is nice too. But what an odd name for a seafood restaurant, but who’s complaining. The owner must be a Beatles fan. It is located in what locals call, PJ New Town, around the HSBC building. Delicious buttered prawns, yummy squids and ooh-so-good deep fried Garoupa. Go for it.

Resembling their natural habitat, the park hosts more than 3,000 birds from 200 species and covers about 8.4ha. stroll through the park along a maze of walkways, amidst greenery, scattered with scenic rest stops for picnics. Penang Hill is the state’s foremost hill resort. Although it was originally called Flagstaff Hill, the locals have always affectionately referred to it as Penang Hill or Bukit Bendera. At about 830 metres (2,750 feet) from sea level, the temperature on the hilltop is considerably cooler than the nether lands. On regular weekdays, the hill is pretty quiet and can serve as a recuperative getaway, far from the madding crowd and city heat.

The name change from Penang Hill to Bukit Bendera actually takes it back to the early days of Penang Hill, when a flag fluttering from a flagstaff or flagpole on Bel Retiro, the home of Penang’s governor at the time, was used as a beacon, or signal ‘transmitter’ to Fort Cornwallis.

Why do I like this place?

1. Get up to Penang Hill using the old funicular railway, known as Penang Hill Railway (Keretapi Bukit). Alight at Upper Station after about 30 minutes ride.2. Go hiking at one of these trails: Botanic Gardens, Hye Keat Estate, Tiger Hill or Moon Gate at Waterfall Road.

3. Visit the bird sanctuary at the Bellevue Hotel grounds.

4. Go sight seeing along Summit Road.

5. Try the Canopy Walk.

6. Visit the Indian Temple and Mosque which is situated on a hillock, and built side by side.

7. Finally, relax at the Railway Bungalow on Penang Hill.
