KL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT has received the “Highly Commended” award at the OAG Airport Marketing Awards 2006 held in conjunction with the 12th World Route Development Forum in Dubai on Sept 18.
OAG Managing Director Duncan Alexander presented the award to Malaysia Airports Managing Director Dato’ Seri Bashir Ahmad, witnessed by Malaysia Airports Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Dr Aris Othman.
The ceremony was held at the Malaysia Airports chalet in the Networking Village. Also present were officials and partners of Malaysia Airports and Routes.
Routes, as the forum is popularly known, is the world’s largest airport airline gathering of its kind, with 300 airlines and 650 airports, including industry organizations and manufacturers, attending the prestigious forum.
Bashir described the award as highly prized for Malaysia Airports as it reflects its continuous efforts in marketing KLIA as a destination hub in the region.
The OAG Marketing Awards is a yearly event held in conjunction with the world Route Development forum. The awards are based on votes by industry partners-the airline network planning community.
They recognize the outstanding achievements of air ports in marketing their services to airlines and to the traveling public.
Although routes focuses on air-route development for airlines and airports, it also has a major impact on tourism and the overall economic development of nations.
Malaysia Airports manages and operates 39 airports in Malaysia, five of which are international, 16 dimestic and 18 Short Take-Off and Landing Ports (STOL Ports).
On November 30,1999, Malaysia Airports became the first airport company to be listed in Asia. KL International Airport (KLIA), its flagship airport was voted as the Best Airport (15-25 million passengers per annum) in the 2005 AETRA awards.
Malaysia Airports has also been entrusted to host the 2008 World Route Development Forum, the first airport operator in Asia to be given the honour of hosting this world class airport- airlines event.
