Besar Island

As its name suggests, Besar Island is one of the largest islands off the coast of Mersing. It’s formerly known as Pulau Babi Besar, (Big Boar Island) because of the many wild boars that roamed the island before man took over. This island is  renowbed as the host of international documentary filmmakers for Expedition Robinson 2001.

With secluded stretches of beaches, glistening blue waters and marvelous coral reefs, I is no wonder that fishing, scuba diving, swimming, snorkeling and island hopping are so popular,  Resorts here include Aseania Resorts, D’coconut Resorts and Nirwana Beach Resort.

Jetty: About 30 minutes from Mersing ferry terminal by hired boats.
Things to do: Fringed by crystal-clear azure waters. You can actually see part of the reefs when the tide is low. Try to spot tooth marks on the rocks that supposedly proves that mammals once roamed the island.
